KitchenAid Coated Flat Beater chips too easily

Submitted by sundance - 9/15/2017

Yesterday the Attachment Hub loosened and fell into my zucchini bread batter, initially unnoticed by me. As the beater hit it, it unbalanced the mixer bowl and I quickly shut the mixer off, discovered the problem and removed the Hub from the batter. Unfortunately I didn't notice until washing it that, in coming into contact with the flat beater for even a brief period of time, it had chipped off a 1/4" section of coating on the bar. Had to discard the batch as there is no information regarding the composition of the bar coating, and can't imagine it is anything we would want to consume. A better design would be plain stainless steel or aluminum, yes? Or something that cannot chip.

Chipped Beater & Whisk Attachment

Submitted by Esther - 9/13/2017

I got my second Kitchenaid Stand Mixer as a wedding present. After a few months of use, one day while I was making whipping cream, I noticed that there were weird metallic colours in my whipping cream. To my shock, my beater attachment's paint had worn off and now was going into my food. This was the same case for my whisk attachment. Some dark metallic paint (?) was rubbing off from the whisk attachment! I don't know what they changed but my first Kitchenaid Mixer (from 8+ years ago!) has had no problems like this new one! Ugh!

Chipped beater

Submitted by Momma Bear - 8/4/2017

I have had my Kitchenaid mixer for years and love it. However I am not happy with the flat beater. It has started to chip and I am afraid if i use it the white stuff will end up in my food. I had to order a new beater that I have not gotten yet. Hopefully it will last

The mixer works well, the beater flakes off

Submitted by REM - 7/31/2017

I love the mixer, but I would recommend getting an after-market beater blade (and dough hook, really) that is not coated in this material. It chips and flakes off. To give you an idea, the bottom of my beater has worn away and upper edges are flaking off. To make matters works, my dough hook is flaking away around the top, not where it would get rubbed putting it on the machine, but the outside edge. This is ending up in my batter, which is disturbing.

attachment quality of late

Submitted by sonia the baker - 7/15/2017

have had my kitchenaid for over 30 yrs! just now i am faced with having to replace the 'coated' paddle..has started not to peel but just wear away, having said all that i know many of my friends that purchased new mixers are not happy with the quality of the new ones! even the motors are failing!! don't know why Kitchenaid is not on top of this but if i have to one day i will buy a different brand!! Kitchenaid is not the only company that manufactures mixers...lots of excellent brands from Europe and elsewhere..so i recommend that the company take our complaints seriously, although, i personally have not had a problem with mine and i don't plan on buying a new just for the sake of a 'new' color.

Again, bad beater

Submitted by Mimi - 7/3/2017

I love my KitchenAid mixer!!!! I hate the beater!!! I bought my mixer in December, so excited to finally own a KitchenAid, dream come true. Unfortunately, like everyone else, the beater has to be replaced. I have carefully hand washed mine since buying it in hopes it would last because I heard about having to replace them. It's not fair that it has to be done especially when you hear of the much older models lasting forever it seems but what is one to do? If you want a KitchenAid mixer, you have to put up with this flaw because there will be nothing done about it, because money can't be made if it lasted like the older models.

Paddle coating chips

Submitted by Jeanne - 6/26/2017

I, too, have had my paddles crack and flake. I have two paddles and the same thing has happened to both of them. I am disappointed that I need to buy replacement paddles - but I do love the mixer.

Beater problems...

Submitted by Gram - 6/22/2017

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my stand mixer and it gets used all the time! I love it so much that all 3 of my daughters also have and use one...but the beater just can't...take a beating to well. I have replaced mine before and am ready to order another one! It chips, and has multiple spots where it has come off...I would love a stainless steel one that does NOT need replacing every few years..my mixer is 20 years old!! So I will order a new beater in a few minutes because I STILL will use it ...a lot!

Coating flakes

Submitted by Kim Watson - 5/29/2017

My husband gave me my kitchen aid mixer about 2 years ago for Christmas. I have the original beater attachment and I refuse to use it. After a few months of owning it the coating began falling off, ruining several recipes along the way. I have to purchase another beater attachment so I can properly make my recipes. For the cost of the mixer the attachments should last a lot longer than a few months to a year or two. The mixer itself works great.

Chipping after a couple months

Submitted by Brownie King - 5/9/2017

After years of wanting a kitchen aid mixer, my wife and I received one for Christmas 2017. After only a few months the beater has chipped, with the enamel actually coming off during one baking session into the batter being mixed. We had only hand washed this attachment. We are extremely happy with our kitchen aid mixer overall, but now looking to replace a part on a mixer that is only 5 months old. After reading the reviews of this attachment, the chipping seems to be a common problem. With all the negative reviews, one would think that another coating or none at all would be used. Seems that perhaps a redesign is in order.

Artisan 325 flat beater chipped!

Submitted by Wendy - 4/22/2017

Hi, I love my pink mixer because not only is it SO cute but it works great until the beater chipped into my cupcake dough. I was making cupcakes for my daughter'c class and running late too then noticed the beater chipped into the batter! Oh NO!!!!! What a bummer. I had to throw it away and make more! I have always hand washed even though it says dishwasher safe.....

Excellent function, but coating cracks and peels

Submitted by Cookie Mom - 4/8/2017

Love this beater, but after about 6 years, the coating cracked and started chipping off at the attachment site. This beater came with my Artisan mixer. I used it like crazy and love this beater! Unfortunately it started to crack and then started chipping after about 6 years of use. I never put it in the dishwasher. I'm disappointed in the cracking and chipping, but I will, definitely get a new one, and would recommend to a friend with the warning of this concern.

Coating chips off into batter! MAJOR FAIL!!!

Submitted by CoatingSwallower - 3/27/2017

I have used my mixer less than 10 times and hand wash the paddle immediately after each use. Today the coating was chipping off the paddle into my batter. I hesitate to buy another because apparently KA mixer paddles chip regularly (according to other reviewers) and KA ignores the problem by not offering a stainless steel version. You'd think with over 10x the number of 1-star reviews to 5-star reviews the company would get the point and work to remedy this situation. I guess coming up with more mixer colors is more important than addressing the quality of the main mixer part. Completely disappointed with Kitchenaid at this point.

Good design, but needs a coating upgrade

Submitted by jlp91326 - 3/12/2017

Old one last a life time !

Submitted by Di - 3/9/2017

I've had my mixer for 37 yrs. and love it . Wouldn't bake with out it . My flat beater has not chipped at all and I wanted to purchase a new beater with the rubber attachment on it but you don't seem to offer one for my model k5ss .And after reading the reviews for the new ones I think I'll just stick to my old reliable one . Maybe Kitchen Aid should go back to making them the way they used to 30 yrs. ago !

Chipping coating

Submitted by Senior - 3/6/2017

I really like using my stand mixer. However, the white coating on the flat beater bar and also on the dough hook is chipping off. I have never washed it in the dishwasher, always by hand and dry it immediately. I am hesitant to pay for a replacement in case the same thing happens. Why isn't there one made of stainless steel? Perhaps there should be a recall for these defective parts.

Coating peels off on edges

Submitted by scratchbaker - 1/25/2017

The edge of the coating is splitting and peeling off the blade. I can understand the coating wearing off the bottom of the beater, but splitting off the edge is a DEFECT. What Kitchenaid chat told me is I could buy a replacement part. NO WAY! It's garbage.

Dangerous - chips into batter

Submitted by Rachel - 1/8/2017

The machine itself is beautiful, this particular beater is awful. The white coating is chipping off. I didn't notice right away - having horror thoughts about the "crunchy" thing in the last cake I made. Was it eggshell.. or... this??? Anyway trying to find a replacement has been a real pain - lots of places that don't seem to ship to new zealand. Would really like to buy a stainless steel one but as far as I can work out those are only for other models, not the KS150. Its a shame because I need to buy another one of these inferior beater heads to keep using the overall great machine.

Coated Flat Beater

Submitted by Connie - 1/6/2017

Love my Mixer...not sure about the flat beater

Submitted by deanna616 - 1/3/2017

I have used my Kitchen Aid Tilt Head mixer for over 12 years now (it's a workhorse in my kitchen!) but I will have to replace my flat head beater for the 4th time (as soon as it's back in stock). The same exact thing happens every time...the paint on the bottom starts to chip off. Is it possible to make a stainless beater for the 5 qt. size instead of a powder coated? Just wondering.

Submitted by DeborahLar - 12/30/2016

I actually like the mixer but the flat beater has been chipping since we got it. I cannot believe something so expensive has such a cheaply made beater attachment. Paddle/white plastic coated for model KSM90

Submitted by Camille - 12/22/2016

My mixer paddle started chipping after only a few uses. I have only used the stainless steel bowl that came with the mixer and then a few years ago Kitchen Aid came out with a set of two plastic mixing bowls which I have also used, so nothing other then Kitchenaid bowls and yet the paddle still chips. Also only hand washed always. Why is t something that belongs to a workhorse machine so badly made??? Stainless steel would be ideal. Do you stand behind this paddle for replacement purposes? Thank you for your anticipated help.

Poor Product

Submitted by Sheila - 11/28/2016

I have purchased 3 different Coated Flat Beaters over the past few years. The 1st one came with the machine itself & was the one that lasted the longest; it was always handwashed with care. I then purchased 2 more coated flat beathers at the same time. Each one began chipping after just a few uses. This was clearly very disappointing. I did read all of the reviews before purchasing the replacements, but, I guess I was hoping that I would get lucky. There is clearly a design flaw & it looks like there is a design flaw with the burnished flat beater, as well . I hope that the designers @ KitchenAid will truly listen to our feedback. Something needs to change! Disappointed in Maryland!

Coating chipped off

Submitted by Deb - 11/19/2016

We found what appeared to be egg shells in a cake recently; I accused my husband of carelessly dropping in the shells when he mixed it. Mixer is high quality but beater eithe chips or wears

Submitted by Joe V - 11/19/2016

The Artisan Mixer is of high quality and very reliable I am a mechanical engineer and my wife and daughter use the mixer occassionally but always with great results. The beater though has chipped or worn out after approximately 20 uses. Not sure if an adjustment is needed, if the coating is not the correct composite of the bowl does not lock into the correct height. The concern is that no one knows who ate the chips from the beater. I would hope the root cause is understood so that a solution can be implemented.

Had mine for 25 years now, and I came here to order another

Submitted by Robbie - 11/6/2016

I too have faced the issue about the peeling, however I have owned this mixer for over 25 years. I came on the site to order another. I think the reason it's peeling now is due to wear and tear after 20+ years I think it held up pretty great. Note: When making anything with nuts or chocolate chips or anything hard, i.e. cookie dough, it is best to add last by hand, and not using the flat beater for everything. I promise this will help keep the flat beater from chipping or peeling.

Need to replace the beater due to the fact the powder coating is chipping off on the sides and bottom of the beater. I read the all the reviews about the beater with the powder coating coming off and was very much surprised to see all the other comments regarding the same identical issue I am experiencing. With Kitchen Aide experiencing the identical issue on the beater why would you not manufacturer a stainless steel beater or at least some other type of metal or coating that would last.
